Suitable For: This course is designed for owners of businesses or managers of organisations who have limited knowledge of employment law. The course will update employers and managers on their legal obligations in relation to employing staff in order for them to make informed decisions and to review their staff contracts and policies and procedures. It provides an overview of the key laws to equip the delegate with knowledge and information so the organisation can reduce its risks and implement good practice. Subjects are introduced in a participative format and delegates are encouraged to raise issues of interest to them relating to employee relations. Extensive hand-outs are provided to include essential information on employment law and a model contract of employment. The minimum of jargon and maximum of support will be provided. Objectives: By the end of the course delegates will be able to: - Refer to the key areas of law that relate to the employment of staff
- Assess the levels of risks and associated costs of not complying with different aspects of the law in order to make informed decisions
- Work effectively within the field of employees’ rights together with their legal entitlements to include maternity, paternity and adoption benefits, parental leave, time off for domestic incidents, sickness benefits, annual leave, break times, working hours, equal pay, human rights
- Identify what constitutes discrimination and victimisation
- Use correct procedures recognised by the law for disciplining staff and for handling grievances from staff
- Write a Statement of Terms & Conditions of Employment which forms the written contract
- Design key staffing policies and procedures needed to ensure an employment relationship with staff that is both legal and promotes good practice
