APM Practitioner Assessment Course

Pre-requisite

Please note, pre work is required.

Duration

Approximately two and a half days in duration over three days.

NB. The APM Practitioner Assessment course starts at lunchtime on day 1. There is evening group work on both evenings. Finish at lunchtime on day 3.

Is it right for me?

Individuals with at least three years experience in responsible leadership functions of non-complex projects or team members in more complex projects.

Candidates must satisfy one of the following criteria:

  • Have passed the APMP
  • Can demonstrate good familiarity with the APM Body of knowledge and have passed an equivalent qualification such as PMP, ISEB Certificate in Project Management, Open University Project Management Module M865
  • Can demonstrate good foundation knowledge of project management supported by evidence of relevant CPD

As well as the above, candidates must also provide:

  • Two copies of the completed and signed APM Practitioner Qualification application form
  • Two copies of the completed APM self assessment form
  • Two copies of a project based CV outlining the candidate's experience in project management, with details of their responsibilities and involvement across the project life cycle.

What will I get out of it?

Successful candidates are awarded the APM Practitioner Qualification. Successful candidates will be registered with the International Project Management Association (IPMA) Level C qualification. In line with the stipulations of the Level C qualification, the APM Practitioner Qualification is valid for a period of five years. After five years, a candidate's certification must be re-certified by providing evidence of their Continuing Professional Development in project management

Scope

The assessment takes place within the boundaries of a case study and is made against 30 assessment criteria. Assessors are also looking for objective evidence of 'desired behaviour characteristics of a project management professional':

Format

Candidates will carry out three types of activity during the assessment:

Individual work: written answers to questions based on the case study and a question about an issue in project management. Questions will be answered under examination conditions.

Group work: candidates undertake group exercises in order to discuss and solve problems related to the case study.

Interviews: candidates are interviewed on an individual basis.

Assessment

Assessors collect evidence of a candidate's capabilities during the activities. An APM facilitator directs and co-ordinates the assessment, marks written papers and evaluates the results.
